If you’re frustrated with online dating, you’re not alone.
Recent data shows a decline in users and downloads, and dating app companies are struggling as people recognize that online dating isn’t delivering the way it used to.
What’s happening?
Well, online dating is, in some ways, a victim of its own success.
Just like in online poker, where professionals eventually dominated the game, the same “optimization” trend has crept into online dating, creating a two-tier system of “pros” and “amateurs.”
Initially, online dating was a place for people genuinely seeking relationships.
Photos were real, and bios were honest.
But as the popularity of online dating grew, so did people’s efforts to “optimize.” Perfect photos, carefully crafted bios, and even paid features turned dating into a competitive game.
Those who put in time to master these strategies got more dates, while the average user found themselves at a disadvantage.
This gap, reinforced by algorithms, has made online dating tougher, especially for those seeking genuine connections.
So, where does this leave us?
First, online dating isn’t dead.
If you optimize your profile and understand the system, there’s still a huge opportunity to succeed.
For those genuinely looking for relationships, honing your skills is essential. I even offer a course, Online Dating Academy, to help you maximize your success.
Second, offline opportunities are growing.
Many people are ditching dating apps for real-life meetups like running clubs, board game meetups, and speed dating.
Cold approach is also making a comeback.
So, it’s important to adapt to these new dynamics.
Becoming the best version of yourself will make you successful in both online and offline dating.
The game may evolve, but the fundamentals remain the same.
