Most guys hit a brutal plateau.
You start approaching. You start getting numbers. And then . . . nothing. The phone numbers flake so consistently, you start wondering if getting numbers is even worth it.
Here’s what’s really happening: you’re getting a number, but you’re not getting a solid number.
A solid number is when the girl actually wants to see you again, so the texting becomes easy. Not “convince her to meet,” but “pick a day.”
That difference is created before you ever send a text.
And it comes down to three things.
1) She has to emotionally react to you
If your interaction is polite, smooth, and forgettable… she’ll forget you.
You need light spikes. Small breaks in rapport. Tiny push-pull moments that create emotion: a laugh, a playful “Wait . . . what?” A little “I’m concerned now.”
Not aggression. Not clown behavior. Just enough to make the interaction feel like something.
2) She has to qualify to you
The easiest way to spot whether a number will be solid is this:
Is she investing?
Is she explaining herself? Justifying? Adding details? Asking questions back?
That doesn’t happen when you’re in approval mode.
It happens when you challenge her, disagree lightly, or react in a way that makes her want to “clear it up.” Even simple things like:
- “What? Really?”
- “I wouldn’t have guessed that.”
- “That’s . . . interesting.”
And one of the most underrated skills: silence.
Most guys never leave space for the girl to step forward. They fill every gap with more talking, more trying, more rapport.
Pause. Let her come to you.
3) You qualify her (but only after she qualifies first)
This is where guys mess up the timing.
If you start validating too early, you’re handing her value without her earning it.
But once she’s invested a few times—once she’s reacted emotionally and shown she’s engaged—then you drop a little approval:
“You’re giving me a lot of green flags right now.”
The close should feel frictionless
When you close well, there’s no hesitation.
If you hear: “Uh . . . yeah . . . sure . . .” That’s because you didn’t build enough value.
A good close happens when the interaction already did the heavy lifting. The number is just the natural next step.
If you want fewer flakes, stop treating the number like the win.
The win is building a conversation where she leaves thinking:
“Yeah. I’d definitely see him again.”
